6 Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God so that at the proper time he may exalt you, 7 casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you. 8 Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.9 Resist him, firm in your faith, knowing that the same kinds of suffering are being experienced by your brotherhood throughout the world. 10 And after you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace, who has called you to his eternal glory in Christ, will himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you. 11 To him be the dominion forever and ever. Amen. 1 Peter 5:6-11 (ESV)
We spend so much time in this world trying to get ahead.
We want so much to succeed and achieve greatness.
We want people to see us and acknowledge how great we are.
We want to be established, but only God can establish us.
The only way for God to exalt us is by us first humbling ourselves to Him.
To be exalted, we need to be humble first?
I know humility is ego deflating, but that’s the point.
We need to humble ourselves and seek God.
We must seek and obey His Word.
At times this can be difficult so He allows us to cast our anxieties on Him.
God knows exactly what we need and He gives it to us willingly.
He knows that we will face temptation.
In verse 8, He tells us to be sober-minded and watchful.
In verse 9, He tells us to resist the devil and to understand that we are not alone.
God knows the devil is going to try everything to get us to sin.
But He also knows that He has given us the power to resist sin.
The choice is ours.
Use the power that God has given you.
Stand firm in your faith.
And let God exalt you.
