Day 24! – Matthew 22: 37-39

Listen to this episode

37 Jesus replied: “ ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ 38 This is the first and greatest commandment. 39 And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’  Matthew 22:37-39 (NIV)

In these scriptures, Jesus states the two most important things for us to focus on.

Loving God.

Loving our neighbors.

Why is it important to love God with all our heart, soul and mind?

Let’s start with our heart.

Matthew 6:21 says, ” For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”

Jesus knows that we give our all to whatever we give our heart to.

If we love God with all our heart, nothing will stop us from following Him.

Let’s discuss our soul.

Jesus died for our salvation, He gave up His life to free us from the bondage of sin.

When we love God with all our soul, we become willing to sacrifice comforts and face struggles head on.

We understand that life and death rest in the hands of God and nothing will stand in our way from serving Him.

Now how about our mind?

Our minds get distracted very easily, don’t they?

The barrage of information today and the ease of access doesn’t help either.

Our mind is a very powerful thing.

What we allow in it will start shaping our thoughts, then our actions.

This is why it is so important to love God with all our mind.

We need to filter out all the negative noise and focus on God’s Word.

We must study and pray everyday.

If we love God with all our heart, soul and mind everything else will fall into place.

We can’t help but to obey the Word of God.

Loving God leads directly to loving our neighbors.

I get why we should love them, but why do I need to love them like I love myself?

Jesus commanded this because we are all equals.

God created us all and made us all in His image.

I was created no greater than my neighbor so I should love him like myself.

And whether my neighbor decides to serve God or not, Romans 14:11 says, “…As I live, says the Lord, every knee shall bow to me, and every tongue shall confess to God.”

Do you love God with everything?

Let’s pray…

Lord, I pray that we will love you with all our heart, soul and mind.

Let us decide to love our neighbors as we love ourselves.

And allow us focus on you and obey your Word.

In Jesus’s name I pray, amen.
